Looking Back At 2011, Looking Forward To 2012

The Junior Dragster Team had a learning year in 2011 as they learned to race. It was busy from April 30, when things began at the Cosby Jr. Drag Racing School to the final race of the season at Oahe speedway in Pierre, South Dakota on the weekend of September 23rd to 25th. The following recaps that first year and looks forward to the 2012 season.

Alaina Knight

Alaina is the oldest grandkid of George and Diane Knight, long time racers and fans of drag racing. She had never been to a racetrack and had only seen Grandma Diane’s race car in the garage until the spring of 2011. That is when Grandma Diane and Grandpa Alaina KnightGeorge talked her mom (Ester Knight) and dad (Adam Knight) into having her attend the Cosby Jr. Drag Racing School in Medicine Hat. She attended the class and was hooked on drag racing! In about a month, she had a Junior Dragster, fire suit, helmet, trailer, new truck (for crew chief and dad Adam) and (almost) everything she needed to race. She did well in her rookie racing season. She placed 10th in the points race at Saskatchewan International Raceway, and was the top finisher for her age group (8-9 years). She also attended races at the MHBRA drag strip in Medicine Hat and Oahe speedway in Pierre, South Dakota where she had her best finish of the season, advancing to the semi-finals.

laina turned 10 in October, 2011 and is looking forward to the 2012 racing season with great anticipation. Louie Martin (Martin Components) is building her a new (faster! and quicker!) Junior Dragster that will take her to the 8.90 second bracket in style. Her goals are to win at least one race, and to finish in the top 5 in the points race at Saskatchewan International Raceway.

Taliya KnightTaliya Knight

Taliya Knight is the younger sister of Alaina. She worked as a crew member on the Knight Motorsports Junior Dragster Team in 2011, learning how to change oil, hook the Junior Dragster to the tow dolly, clean the Junior Dragster and golf cart tow vehicle, and whatever else was necessary. She also learned how to eat sunflower seeds non-stop.

Taliya turned eight in October 2011 and will attend the Cosby Jr. Drag Racing School in Medicine Hat in early May.She will be racing the Junior Dragster that Alaina drove in 2011. The Junior Dragster is set up to run the 12.90Class and is being tweaked by Louie Martin (Martin components) to accommodate her lighter weight and shorter legs. Her racing goals for 2012 are to learn to race her Junior Dragster and win some rounds.

The whole Knight Motorsports team, Grandpa George, Grandma Diane, Dad Adam, and Mom Ester are looking forward to a busy season in 2012 with two Junior Dragster racers.
