Up, Up and Away

Knight BarracudaAfter discovering the transmission problem that had been hampering our performance (“If Anything Can Go Wrong, It Will”) the Barracuda went to Mark Bennett of Bennett’s Auto Repair who gave up a weekend to rebuild the transmission. Mark also took the time to bring me up to speed on racing transmission technology and over the winter he will be building a new state-of-the art racing transmission for the Barracuda. Thanks to Mark we were off to the races at Saskatchewan International Raceway (SIR).

August 6th & 7th 2011 SIR, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

The first pass with the debugged Barracuda was a 10.65 ET followed by a 10.60 ET. One “Mark Bennett” transmission rebuild and an improvement of over a second – WOW! We got to race in the Big Buck Jackpot Race, lost in the 1st round with a red light, bought back into the Race for the second round and promptly lost the round again. Two round losses in a row, but, what the heck, we were racing.

Sunday, we returned, with consistent 10.60 ET’s at 125MPH. Diane won the first two rounds with the race car running consistent and identical 10.614 ET’s before losing in the quarter-finals with a red light start.

We had the car debugged and running exactly what we had predicted it would run and the driver wasn’t all that rusty after a 7 year break. Let’s go racing.

August 27th 2011 SIR, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

This is Saskatchewan International Raceway’s biggest weekend every year with Funny Cars, Dragsters and Pro Mods and a crowd of over 4000. We contributed to the crowd by inviting 60 clients, friends, sponsors, staff and family to the races. We kept Diane busy visiting with our guests and forgot she needed to focus on driving! The end result was two failed qualifying runs and a first round loss due to driver error. An early loss is not a good race weekend but on the positive side it gave us a great opportunity to visit with the people who support our racing and make it possible.

The cars running well, the driver’s a bit rusty, but everything is coming together and it’s time to get “On The Road Again”.

George and Diane
